Discipleship Triangles Introduction
Why?
- The most important thing is discipleship to Jesus in our real world lives and it deserves our focus and investment of time
- God speaks to His children and the bible is central to that.
- Like a plumbing apprenticeship, discipleship involves our real world experiences, and the reality of our lives (close to God, struggling, joyful, dry or questioning) not just theories and principles.
- God cares about the people we interact with and each of us have unique opportunities to demonstrate and explain God’s love.
- A discipleship triangle is a light weight, low maintenance structure where we can support and encourage one another in these things without a large leadership or organisational burden.
What?
Each meeting covers three areas in roughly equal time ie thirds. To help maintain balance, rotate which topic you start with. Share the role of keeping the sharing on track time and topic wise:
- UP dimension: Share what has struck you out of the bible passage you agreed to read at the previous meeting - insights and/or questions. This can be one or more of three aspects: Head (how the passage fits into the overall message of the bible and what contribution it makes), Heart (a particular verse, word, phrase, section or idea that spoke to you personally about God and His relationship with you - who God is, who you are etc), and Hand (some application to your life). Pray about what you have shared.
- IN dimension: Share how life is going - good things and challenges. Specifically talk about any Kairos moments that have happened and that you are processing. It is in processing these moments that growth happens, sharing with each other can help clarify and and help keep us on track to follow through on our responses. Encourage one another and pray for one another.
- OUT dimension: talk about opportunities (taken, missed or planned) to demonstrate and share the good news of the Kingdom of God. Reflect on people of peace and how you are going at identifying and interacting with them. Pray for opportunities and people. You may like to focus on one pair from the octagon each time: person of peace/perception; presence/proclamation; passing/permanent relationships; preparation/power.
